Elsie Radtke is Associate Director of the Family Ministries Office in the Archdiocese of Chicago.
As coordinator of Divorce and Annulment Support Ministries, she applies what she has learned
about failed marriages to couples who want to save their marriage for their own sake and the
sake of their children. She is a teacher and experienced mediator. Elsie received her training
from Lee Raffel, author of the CS process and the book, Should I Stay or Go?;
Kate van Dyke is founder and president of Divorce Counseling and Coaching, Inc. As a mediator,
coach and collaborative practice professional, she guides couples to consider a variety of options
when their marriage is in trouble. Her success with using the Controlled Separation process with
couples will be demonstrated.
"Since being trained to use CS in my work as a Couples Specialist,
my search is over for the "missing piece". By facilitating the CS
process, I have helped couples speak what had
gone unspoken for many months or years. This approach provides,
especially for the most distressed and ambivalent couples, the
structure and topics for discussion that creates a much needed
"clearing" and diffuses a lot of tension and angst between them.”
- Meg Haycraft, Twogether, Inc, Skokie IL
"When couples come to my counseling office talking divorce, I quickly
go to Lee Raffel‘s book “Should I Stay or Should I Go?” As an pastor
and MFT, 90% of my clients are Christian or have a faith foundation and
the concept of a controlled separation is an alternative they are ready to hear.
My experience has been that many couples will continue working
on the relationship without separating since they know they have
alternatives if needed. Those who do use the Controlled Separation
plan find it extremely helpful to have a structure and goals to use the
time apart for a purpose. I heartily recommend this program for the
“toolbox” of every therapist."
- Robert Daugherty, Past President, Wisconsin Association of Marriage and
Family Therapists
