REP: The Relational Empowerment Process: Keeping your Eye on the Prize
Terry Real, MSW

This Institute is an adaptation of the theory and relationship skills of Relational Recovery
Therapy into an educational curriculum for educators with a focus on couples. Its
aim is to help couples discover relational empowerment which differs from either
extreme of disempowerment or individual empowerment. You will be introduced
to REP, the Relational Empowerment Process of teaching women how to be assertive
AND loving, and teaching men how to be responsive and generous. Learn how to
empower yourself to get what you need while at the same time empowering your
partner to deliver it for you.

This institute provides knowledge and skills that can be used in your educational
settings, in your community or practice, or to enrich your own relationship. They
are effective for singles as well as married and committed couples and work for
gay, lesbian, or heterosexual couples. They are also applicable to all cultures and classes.

Participants are introduced to the concepts and techniques of REP, the relational
empowerment process.   When faced with “the crunch” the discrepancy between
what we want and what we have, most people fall short of fulfilling their desires
in a relationship because they stop trying.   REP gives men and women the skills
they need to “keep their eye on the prize”—the solution that works for both of
them. REP teaches women how to be fully assertive AND loving at the same time
while teaching men how to be both responsive and generous.

The techniques introduced will include how to:

* Take a relationship inventory
* Deal with the “prerequisites of intimacy” (psychiatric disorders, self medication, acting out disorders)
* Understand and “install” helping self esteem and boundaries
* Understand and use the “relationship grid” to precisely diagnose the relationships viscous circle and what’s needed to escape it
* Deal with core negative imagines (CNI) – yours and theirs
* Deal with ones own and ones partners resistance to change
* Understand and transform unfinished business from family of origin
