Volunteering at the Smart Marriages Conference
This is a great opportunity for a total immersion in the marriage and family
education field – a behind-the-scenes, close-up, meet-the-experts experience.
It's also a great deal! Volunteers attend the conference for $55 rather
than the $265 student rate. The $55 fee covers the full conference from
Thurs July 8, 6:30pm - Sun July 11, 7pm and includes all plenary sessions
(23 keynote speakers), all breakouts (you'll attend seven of the 140 90 min
workshops), and three lunches.
You won't miss any part of the conference. You'll work inside the workshops and
plenary/keynote sessions assisting presenters and attendees, checking badges, and making sure the
sessions run smoothly.
Volunteers must work the full conference and must attend a volunteer
training meeting 1-2:30pm Thurs July 8. Your commitment ends
at 6:30pm on Sunday, July 11, at the conclusion of the volunteer debriefing meeting.
No exceptions. You are also welcome, but not required to attend the Marriage
Comedy Club Sunday from 7 - 10pm which is included.
Volunteers may also work pre or post conference training institutes
at a reduced fee of $60 a day on a space-available basis. Volunteer positions are
limited to one volunteer per institute. These fill fast. You'll be trained and certified
as instructors and will receive the training materials - same as if you were a regular full-pay attendee.
If a volunteer Institute position is not available for the institute of your preference, you can attend institutes
at the regular $135 per day "with conference" rate.
Volunteers must be full-time students in degree-granting programs. 2010 spring & summer graduates also qualify.
We are able to include a limited number of non-students based on financial need. Email to explain your
situation and request an exception.
Also, because this is a Marriage conference, non-student spouses of student volunteers may also
attend on a volunteer basis.
Volunteer quad dorm rooms are avialable at the Shingle Creek Resort for $80+tax per night for up
to 4 volunteers per room. In other words, you'd split the $80+ rate 4 ways. The dorm rooms are double rooms with two queen beds. It is NOT required that volunteers stay in dorm rooms. The regular conference rate at the Shingle Creek is $110+ single/double.
